NGC7023
The Iris Nebula
Image Information
The Iris Nebula, cataloged as NGC7023, is a reflection nebula
located in the constellation Cepheus about 1,300 light years distant
from us. The reddish glow seen in the central filaments are dust grains
that effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation into
visible red light. The Iris Nebula is about 6 light years across. |

This image is compiled from
luminance data of 10 - 10 minute subs, 40 - 5 minute subs and 25 - 1
minute subs. The attempt here was to minimize the damage done by the
central magnitude 7.4 star. The RGB color data are all taken at 1x1
binning with the same goal in mind but all are 10 minutes subs at 8
each. No matter the processing, each image appeared to be noisy
regardless of the amount of data and method of combining the data. One
thing I did have to keep in mind is that with this image, the entire
area is in nebulosity. |
