NGC2403

Image Information

Quoted from SEDS:

Discovered by William Herschel in 1788.

This beautiful spiral galaxy is an outlying member of the M81 group of galaxies, and thus about 12 million light years distant.

NGC 2403 is among the more conspicuous Northern objects which Charles Messier missed when compiling his catalog. Thus its discovery was left to William Herschel.

This image consists of 5 Red, 5 Green, and 4 Blue images all taken at -30°C at bin 2x2 for 10 minutes each. The luminance images are 15 minutes each binned 1x1 and at -30° with a total of 13 used. All data used totals just over 5.53 hours. All data was acquired using MaxImDl/CCD version 5.24 using ACP7.  Pix Insight version 1.8 was used for processing. Dithered guiding was on.

This is a fairly "thin" image but with the impending weather and the lateness in the season for this object I may not any additional data. The weather has been less than great of late. Today it's been 66° and just starting to rain. Later tonight or early tomorrow morning it's suppose to turn to ice and snow with accumulations of up to 12" and a low of 6°. It's been that kind of winter here in central Virginia this year. Oh well.
