Image Information

Quoted from SEDS:
  • William Herschel discovered the cluster in 1784, the nebula in 1785.

The Chrismas Tree Cluster and the Cone Nebula were both discovered by William Herschel. He found the cluster on January 18, 1784 and cataloged it as H VIII.5, and the nebula on December 26, 1785, and assigned it the number H V.27. The nebula belongs to a much larger complex, which is currently an active star forming region.

This image is compiled from 10 - 15 minute R, G, & B images and 10 -15 minute luminance.  A total of 10 hours of data was used. All data was acquired using MaxImDl/CCD version 5 using ACP.   Images were reduced, De-Bloomed, Auto Star Aligned, average combined and saved in MaxImDl version 5.  The master images were combined, registered and the color image created. Photoshop CS 3 was used for cleanup of blooms, curves, and  levels.  The image data was collected over January 24 - 31, 2009. This is one of the first "Baader LRGB filter images I've completed.
