NGC2264 - The Cone Nebula

Image Information

Quoted From APOD
William Herschel discovered the cluster in 1784, the nebula in 1785.

The Christmas Tree Cluster and the Cone Nebula were both discovered by William Herschel. He found the cluster on January 18, 1784 and cataloged it as H VIII.5, and the nebula on December 26, 1785, and assigned it the number H V.27. The nebula belongs to a much larger complex, which is currently an active star forming region.

This image is compiled from 40 - 10 minute Hydrogen Alpha images.  A total of 6 hours and 40 minutes of data used. All data was acquired using MaxImDl/CCD version 4.56. Images were reduced and saved in MaxIm. The data was then brought into CCDStack where bloom removal, alignment, and sigma reject was performed to produce the master image. Photoshop CS 2 was used for curves and levels.  The image data was collected over October 8-10, 2006.
