vdb142
The Elephant Trunk Nebula

Image Information

vdb142 is located in the constellation Cepheus and in the emission nebula IC 1396. The globule is a condensation of dense gas, compressed by the surrounding ionized gas, which is barely surviving the strong ionizing radiation from a nearby massive star. vdb142 is about 3,00 light years from earth.

This image is compiled from 5 hours of luminance data using 10 minute sub exposures at -10° C. The color data is binned 2x2 and taken at -10° C using 10 minute sub exposures. Each color channel is a total of 90 minutes each for a total imaging time of 9.5 hours. This is the second image taken using my new ST10XME being guided by the remote guide head on a AP guide scope.

Equipment Used:

OGS 10" RC
